You are invited to an event that explores mapiya lumi | around here, TMAG’s newly opened gallery for children. Andy Baird, TMAG Deputy Director, and Michael McLaughlin, Manager Public Programs and Learning, will offer up the insights and thinking behind the gallery’s creation and how it will impact on future generations.

This major new offering for young visitors and their families brings to life the breadth of TMAG’s collection under an overarching theme of ‘little big home’. Child-centred, place-based, a social and civic space, it’s an interactive gallery that engages all the senses and helps ground our children in the uniqueness of Tasmania — our home. More than a dozen Tasmanian artists and craftspeople, designers, taxidermists, educators and generally great people have created the largest single permanent gallery change since the 2010 TMAG redevelopment.

Whether or not there are small people in your life, this will be an enlightening look at museums best practice. While the gallery is for children, this event is tailored for adults. We hope that after seeing and hearing all about what's on offer, you will be inspired to bring your children and grandchildren along on other occasions to experience it for themselves.

This is a FREE EVENT and you are welcome to bring along non-member friends. Please consider staying on for a cup of tea in the members' lounge after the talk and gallery tour.
