Spring Bay Mill
You are invited to visit Spring Bay Mill.
Spring Bay was once home to the world’s largest woodchip mill. This 43 hectare waterfront site on the east coast near Triabunna is being transformed from its dark past into a culture and environment-focused events venue. The spaces which formed integral parts of the former Gunns woodchip mill operation are being upcycled and reused for performance, functions, exhibitions and accommodation.
Join us on a tour of the site, discovering its rich history and seeing at first hand the commitment of the owner to the rehabilitation and regeneration of the natural landscape after its many years of industrial use.
A light lunch will be provided, followed by a talk from Dr Gintaras Kantvilas, Head of the Tasmanian Herbarium, who will speak about TMAG’s 2019 Expedition of Discovery to the mill site and how it was discovered that there are indeed significant remnant patches of natural vegetation remaining in the more protected corners of the site. Gintaras will provide a glimpse of some of the expedition’s discoveries, with particular reference to his specialist field of lichens, which turned up some really remarkable finds.
As numbers for this event are limited, this event is open to members only.
Meet us at Spring Bay Mill at 11.30am.
