Markree
TMAG's Arts and Crafts house museum
We invite you to a tour of Markree, one of TMAG’s house museums. Markree is considered to be a gem of the Arts and Crafts movement, which grew in Britain in the mid-19th century as a reaction against the Industrial Revolution, and emphasised a respect for traditional handcraft skills, truth to materials and truth to the purpose for which an object was made.
Markree was built in 1926 for Cecil and Ruth Baldwin and their son Henry. After living in the house all his life, Henry Baldwin bequeathed it to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. The house is filled with the possessions of the Baldwin family, including Henry’s toys, and to visit is to step back in time to the early years of the twentieth century.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer you refreshments at this event: no food is allowed in the house as it’s a museum space, and it’s a bit chilly at this time of the year to be hosting a garden party.
Members $10, non-members $20
