9 days or 90 days on the island:
Volunteering on Tasmanian lighthouse islands

Discover what life is like as a volunteer caretaker or working bee participant on Maatsuyker and Deal islands. How many kilos of pasta (or chocolate) will we eat in three months? Why am I following a line of cotton thread up a very steep slope through thick undergrowth? What does force 8 on the Beaufort scale look like from a cliff top? What do you do for a weekend ‘off’ on a remote island?

Gabrielle Balon and Janine Combes will present a light-hearted look at the experience of being a volunteer on one of Tasmania’s remote lighthouse islands. In 2022 Gabrielle spent 9 days on Maatsuyker Island with the Friends of Maatsuyker Wildcare Group while Janine has spent two periods of 90 days on Deal Island in Bass Strait as a volunteer caretaker.

This is a FREE EVENT and you are welcome to bring non-member friends.
