Hope in Nature—private land conservation in Tasmania
To celebrate International Women’s Day we have invited Dr Cath Dickson, Conservation Science and Planning Manager at the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, to speak to the Friends.
Cath has had a winding career, that has led her to, and then back to private land conservation. In this space she relishes the ability to combine science and the community with action to achieve conservation outcomes on-ground. As the Science Manager at Tasmanian Land Conservancy, she gets to live these values, putting science, community and enduring commitment at the heart of TLC’s conservation effort, recognising that we achieve more together.
At Cath’s talk you will find out about more about the TLC’s current conservation focus and how it manages its conservation values, along with a deep dive into current conservation research projects and examples of how TLC works with private landholders.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: Dr Cath Dickson is the Conservation Science & Planning Manager at Tasmanian Land Conservancy, with 20 years’ experience in natural and threatened species management in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. In 2011 Cath started up the successful environmental NGO Nature Glenelg Trust with colleagues, where she remained on the Board until 2022 and started her career in private land conservation on mainland Australia. However, her PhD research at Monash University on the response of a dominant threatened plant to climate change on Macquarie Island, pulled her south to settle in Tasmania. While interested in all things, nothing gives her more joy than being out in nature, botanising in a wetland!
