Sharing painting conservation with the public
Jenny O’Connell, Senior Conservator (Painting) at TMAG, is putting together an exhibition to share a behind-the-scenes look at painting conservation with the public. Titled Behind the layers: authenticating the secrets in paintings, the exhibition will open in the Salon Gallery in March 2023.
Dee Dzelalija, Exhibitions Manager, will speak to us first to provide an overview of exhibitions at TMAG, then Jenny will speak about Behind the layers. She will discuss the process for pitching and planning an exhibition at TMAG including the focus on audience, selecting and display of artworks, and will provide an update on some of the conservation treatments being undertaken.
And as a special bonus, she will even bring along one of the paintings that she is working on, and some of the tools of her trade.
