Before there were dinosaurs
An update on current research into Tasmania’s Triassic vertebrate fossils
Presenters: Dr David Hocking (TMAG) and Dr Nicolas Campione (University of New England)
Join us at TMAG to hear about the latest research into Tasmania’s Mesozoic vertebrate fossils, where we are using advanced 3D scanning technology at the Australian Synchrotron to ‘digitally prepare’ delicate fossils without removing them from the rock.
This work is providing new insights into the biology of the creatures that lived here before the dinosaurs, including the metre-long archosaur Tasmaniosaurus, and Bothriceps, the giant salamander-like amphibian.
Visiting researcher Dr Nicolas Campione will also present some updates from his recent work on dinosaurs from the Australian mainland and overseas, leading us to the important question: Where are Tasmania’s missing dinosaur fossils?
PLEASE NOTE: this event starts at 3pm.
