On Island
A new TMAG exhibition of contemporary art
Join Dr Mary Knights, Senior Curator of Art, for an introduction and tour of the current TMAG exhibition of contemporary art.
On Flinders Island, ‘on island’ means that you are literally on the island. Its opposite, ‘off island’, suggests that you could be anywhere else — whether Launceston or New York, the distance is irrelevant. Jane Stewart, the exhibition curator, playfully borrowed the phrase ‘on island’ for the title of this exhibition in which she explored connections between the artists and all of the islands that make up Lutruwita/Tasmania. All pieces in the exhibition are held in the TMAG collection, and include works by Philip Wolfhagen, David Keeling, Patrick Hall, Hermie Cornelisse, Pat Brassington and many other well-known artists.
