Dr Barbara Wienecke:
Life with penguins
Dr Barbara Wienecke has been a leading senior scientific investigator with the Australian Antarctic Program for 32 years. Her long term research with colonies of Emperor Penguins in particular and other bird species has become legendary within the Australian Antarctic community and well beyond. Dr Wienecke has been awarded The Polar Medal for her long term research and major contributions to Antarctic science.
Dr Wienecke’s scientific work has been recognised internationally for the quality of her significant work in the field, in Antarctica, combined with her analysis of long term data associated with populations of Emperor Penguins and related species. Her dedication to these critical research programs has been outstanding and serves to reinforce her concerns for the future ecology of these magnificent creatures.
You are invited to meet Dr Wienecke and share her unique story as she explains the nature of her studies, the range of spectacular Antarctic environments she has called home and her thoughts on the pressures impacting on the Antarctic continent and surrounding oceans.
